Do You Feel Stuck On A Career Plateau?

Do you think you have gone as far as you can in your present position? Are you bored, unchallenged or burned out on your present job? Do you feel like you are at a dead end? Here’s the good news. You are on a plateau. Life I supposed to be full of plateaus. They are an important part of your life journey.

A few years ago I went on a hiking trip with a group in Tuscany. Everyday we climbed mountains. When we arrived at a plateau we had a picnic.

You can make a picnic on your plateau. The picnic is an opportunity for rest, relaxation, reflection. Let it nurture, nourish, and refresh your body and soul. Use it to regroup and reevaluate. Make ongoing lists for all the blessings in your life. Focus ONLY on the positives. Enjoy it. It’s a giant Joy Break. (See my ebook Joy Breaks). Don’t rush it. Use the time you spend on the plateau to figure out how and where to take your next step, To do that you must deepen your self knowledge. Self knowledge is always the key to creating the life you want. If you have my work book Stop Doing What You Hate Start Doing What You Love, take it out and spend quality focused time with it. It is about you. If you think you have done the exercises, do them again. As I tell you in the book, you will get different and deeper answers and revelations about yourself each time you do it.

Reflect on your strengths, accomplishments, the things you do better than other people do. What do you enjoy doing? What new thing would you love to learn? How do you want your ideal day to look.? Take classes in fun things that are new to you. Peruse catalogs and job listings for ideas. Arrange to go on informational interviews.

Time you spend being angry, upset and pressured is time wasted. It’s even worse than that because it reinforces a negative self image and moves you backward.

If you create the picnic I described you will discover that you are much more than you think you are. You will feel renewed and ready to move on. Enjoy your journey!
