A PLAN FOR THE NEW YEAR

Below are two lists. Look them over carefully and decide in
which
one you live most of your life.

Choose one or two of those
behaviors you would like to change.
Now ask yourself what small steps can you take to move from
List 1 to List 2? Be realistic. For example do not expect to go
from sedentary to a full exercise program. How about a five
minute use of the exercise bike you never touch in your bedroom
or a walk around the block just once a week? Perhaps you could
cut down on just one can of soda or cup of coffee a day. Look
around at those you love, put any bad feelings aside and give
them a hug…..out of the blue.
Of course, in your own time, the one time a week, will become
two and then three, etc.
Celebrate every step accomplished! Feel proud and build on it.
But DO NOT set a goal higher than you will actually achieve.
Not yet. Eventually when you are feeling proud and happy with
the results, you will be motivated to stretch your limits. You
can positively change your life, with minimal effort, by taking
one
step at a time.
It is very important to reflect on and evaluate what you’ve
actually achieved and are continuing to turn into a regular
habit. Notice how much emotional energy and what degree of
importance you placed on the negatives. Make it a new practice
to put at least that same amount of energy and emotion on the
positive accomplishments you make each day. AND REALLY……
STOP FOCUSING ON THE NEGATIVES. Build on your strengths
and accomplishments, not tearing yourself down and placing
obstacles in the way of your own growth by focusing on what
you did not accomplish.
REMEMBER YOU ARE MUCH MUCH MORE THAN YOU THINK YOU
ARE.
Here is an additional life changing suggestion: Buy a journal
and
at the end of each day write a list of everything that you
accomplished that day. …Even if it seems too simple to you, like
prepared a healthy breakfast, took a five minute walk, broke the
silence with my spouse with a hug, started a project I was
procrastinating, did a good deed (what was it?), recycled some
plastic bottles, smiled at a stranger and said good morning,
etc.
I promise, if you keep up the list it WILL change your life.
Begin this New Year not with resolutions, but with small actions
that I guarantee will take you to a place that will give you
more
joy, increased self esteem, more peace of mind, better health
and loving relationships. Those are the things I wish for you
this holiday season and throughout the New Year.
